South Jersey NFL Flag Headgear Policy

 

South Jersey NFL Flag has implemented this Headgear Policy to promote player safety and reduce the risk of head-related injuries during league play. Protective headgear is recognized as an important safety measure in non-contact flag football, and the league is committed to maintaining a safe playing environment for all participants.

 

Protective flag football headgear is required for all players participating in the following divisions: Jr. Rookie, Rookie, JV–Blue, and JV–Silver. Players competing in the Super JV and Varsity divisions are grandfathered under prior league standards and are therefore not required to wear protective headgear. Players in these divisions may elect to wear protective headgear at their own discretion.

 

Super JV and Varsity players who choose not to wear protective headgear must complete and sign a Headgear Policy Acknowledgment and Waiver Agreement prior to participation. This agreement serves as written acknowledgment that the player and parent/guardian understand the potential risks associated with participating without protective headgear and voluntarily assume responsibility for that decision. Once teams are formed, the acknowledgment and waiver will be provided to players by their coach in the form of an online link and must be completed electronically before the player is permitted to participate without headgear. Players in these divisions who do not submit a completed acknowledgment will not be permitted to participate without headgear.

 

All players in divisions where headgear is required must wear approved protective headgear during all league games. Any player who does not have the required headgear will not be permitted to participate in games until the requirement is met. This policy is enforced consistently and without exception in the interest of player safety.

 

South Jersey NFL Flag does not provide protective headgear. Headgear is not included in the registration fee and must be purchased separately by the player or parent/guardian. While multiple companies manufacture protective flag football headgear, the league strongly recommends SYZMIK Headgear due to its safety ratings and widespread use in competitive flag football. Use of SYZMIK is recommended but not mandatory, provided the headgear is designed specifically for flag football and offers appropriate protection.

 

By registering a player in South Jersey NFL Flag, the parent or guardian acknowledges understanding of this Headgear Policy and agrees to comply with its requirements as a condition of participation. The league reserves the right to amend or update this policy at any time to reflect evolving safety standards, equipment technology, or league needs.
